On April 14 this year Film Sprites PR will turn 3 years old. Yes, my humble little PR and digital marketing consultancy for film will become a rambunctious threenager. Part of the reason Film Sprites PR became a reality was because I could see that there were amazing filmmakers out there who deserved sparkling publicity and social media marketing…and I wanted to be of service.
But if it wasn’t for the spirit of these filmmakers themselves I wouldn’t have reached out. I might have waited pointlessly for my ship to come in instead of making my own opportunities. But interacting with indie filmmakers on Twitter and seeing the way they were making their own opportunities encouraged me to step out and do the same.
If you’re an entrepreneur you can learn so much from the world of indie film. Indie filmmakers are creative, resilient, self-starting, motivated and flexible- all the qualities that a lot of entrepreneurs embody or would like to embody.
The story of the filming of Rocky is an underdog story in and of itself (check out the trivia tidbits on IMDb and you’ll see what I mean). Given the success of the finished film, that’s enough to inspire anyone in their endeavours! Here’s a few lessons you can glean from Rocky, no matter what your ambitions may be.
Firstly, I had been seemingly treading water for a very long time. As much as I love what we do here at Film Sprites PR, I was itching to make even more of an impact and make even more of a difference. Thus, in addition to all of the genre films we assist with publicity and digital marketing services, we’re also looking to have more of a social impact by also assisting the wide spectrum of projects I talked about in a previous post. Part of the reason is that connection is at the heart of what we do here at Film Sprites PR, and so connecting filmmakers with these types of content to a wider audience that will support them is a huge privilege. One of the things I discovered whilst assisting with the Enough Kickstarter (albeit for a short time) was that social impact films encourage people to share their experiences. It helps create a wider dialogue around an issue or a subject. It moves people to a purpose.
2017 is going to be our biggest year ever at Film Sprites PR and we’re looking to make even more of an impact.
In particular we’re keen to help support:
-LGBTQ content and filmmakers
-female filmmakers, screenwriters and cinematographers
-films which promote a diverse range of viewpoints and perspectives
-films which pass the Bechdel and DuVernay Tests
-films which aim to dispel the stigmas around mental illness and help to promote mental health awareness.
Film Sprites PR is pleased to announce that The Halloween Girl, a short film by Richard T. Wilson and the Mad Shelley Films team has recently been accepted into two up-coming film festivals.

Film Sprites PR is thrilled to be assisting publicity and digital marketing of The Northern Line Series in preparation for the crowdfunding campaign for the fourth short film in the series, Medusa’s Kitchen.
The Northern Line Series is a retelling of Greek myths, set around locations on London’s Northern Line.
Film Sprites PR is thrilled to be working again with the multi-talented Oliver Park, actor writer and director. We have had the great privilege of working with Oliver since 2015 and since then he has written and directed the terrifying VICIOUS (which is now free to view on YouTube) and is now in post-production with the short horror follow up STILL.
Vicious has won eight awards internationally, including Gold Award for Best International Film at Toronto After Dark and Platinum Award at the LA Horror Competition. It was nominated for a further seven awards, including Melis d’Argent at Molins in Spain.
